The COVID-19 response team at New Edubiase government Hospital in Adansi South District of Ashanti Region has suspended their duties after a community launched attack on them during their duties.
The Adansi South District recorded three (3) COVID-19 cases a month ago of which one was from Adansi Atobiase and the other two from Adansi Kawotriwhe a suburb of New Edubiase respectively.
With the efforts of the district health directorates and the assembly, the three (3) patients recovered and one new case was recorded through contact tracing on 20th May 2020.
The responds team led by the district disease control officer, Mr William Asamoah who returned the two 2 patients to Kawotrihwe after their recovery took to their heels when they got attacked by the community.
On his accounts, he stated they were attacked because the community believes the COVID-19 is not real and the cases were fabricated.
He added that, the community said nothing on the recovered patients shows they were sick as there were no severe symptoms as they have been hearing and seeing on TV and radio from other countries.
The district police commander, DSP Francis Acka upon hearing the news mounted search for the perpetrators and 15 peoples have been arrested in connection with the incident to assist investigation.
